O’Neill goal adds gloss to victory

Under 16 FL Division 1 final

SIMONSTOWN 1-12
DUNBOYNE/KILBRIDE 0-9

Simonstown saw off the stubborn challenge of Dunboyne/Kilbride to secure a first Under 16 FL Division 1 title since 1994 in Pairc Tailteann on Friday evening.

The team in sky blue pulled away from their opponents in the closing stages and influential full-forward Chris O’Neill added the gloss to their victory when netting the game’s only goal in the 61st minute.

Simonstown played against the wind in the opening period and would have had every reason to be confident during the half-time break with the scoreboard reading 0-5 apiece.

Points from Ben Hoey (free) and O’Neill handed them the initiative early in the second half and they managed to keep their noses in front before finishing with a flourish.

In his acceptance speech, captain Brian McGrath paid tribute to the work of the management team of Colm Farrell, Mark McCabe, Shane Barry and Tom Gallagher and the club would like to echo those sentiments.

Well done to everyone involved!
